art gallery hits milestone

Bainbridge Arts and Crafts is turning 75. The nonprofit gallery on Winslow Way, which has been a pillar of the West Sound arts scene since 1948, has a slew of exhibits and events planned throughout the year to mark this milestone, kicking off with an exhibition of works by internationally revered ceramicist Patti Warashina (January 6-February 14). Other local favorites to look forward to include exhibitions by Gina Fruen, Leo Adams and Mary Lee Hu. “We are proud of our history that has helped artists thrive,” said BAC executive director Debra Ruzinsky. “For our next 75 years we will grow our programs in support of art makers, art appreciators, and folks brand new to the creative process.”
Ruzinsky’s team is planning events for Valentine’s Day, a summer birthday party, and several art auctions, and will participate in the October celebration of the new Bainbridge Island Creative District. They are also planning to release an update of their popular Starving Artists’ Cookbook. The original cookbook, produced by BAC in 1977, included favorite recipes from local artists and was featured in Ladies Home Journal. The update will draw from BAC’s current roster of artists. Much more than just a gallery, BAC fosters the fine contemporary art community through its extensive arts education and outreach programs, including over 100 artist talks and workshops per year offered online and in-person throughout Kitsap County.
